Blog / Projects / About Me

I'm Eric Thornton.

I'm a full time mechanical engineer, part time software developer, surfer, and electronics hobbyist. I'm interested in a lot of things, and this site is a place for me to both document my projects and memoize my work for future reference.

Surfing is something that I picked up in high school, and have been fortunate enough to be able to continue doing since. I currently live south of Wilmington, NC and frequently surf around Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. I run a surf forecasting site called pinpointsurfthat I developed over the past decade of experimenting with different wave models and data sources.

WW4ET is my amateur radio callsign (originally KM4DSJ). Radio seems to be one of those areas where I frequently find myself engulfed in a challenge that requires me to learn concepts that were previously completely foreign to me. Whether it's signal processing, antenna theory, or analog power amplifiers, there's always a rabbit hole to fall down.

Some of the projects I've worked on at home are here.
